Drowning prevention campaign launched

With summer-like weather already here, it's more important than ever for people to learn the basics of drowning prevention.

Rady Children's Hospital and Safe Kids San Diego launched a safety campaign Thursday. And Friday is the beginning of Drowning Prevention Month and the hope is to not have a repeat of tragedies seen last year.

The 2014 statistics include eight reported drowning cases at the Sam S. Rose Stein Emergency Center at Rady Children's with 131 near-drowning cases. The summer months were the busiest for doctors in the emergency room with more than 80 cases reported between June and September.

CBS News 8's Alicia Summers files the above video report from Mission Bay with details.
